What the Dog Saw

Believed by some to be America's best contemporary writer-journalist for his smart, captivating use of scientific data to explain many current trends and issues, Malcolm Gladwell adds to that reputation in his latest offering, a collection of his favorite articles he penned for The New Yorker magazine as a staff writer there over the past decade.

The articles cover a range of issues from homelessness to terrorism to profiling a “dog whisperer,” from which the book's title is derived. Gladwell demonstrates his characteristic knack for taking complex issues and elegantly drawing out not-so-obvious conclusions in pieces on the dilemma of too much information in confronting financial problems such as the Enron debacle or predicting terrorist attacks and the drawbacks of hiring interviews.

Gladwell fans will get exactly the enjoyment and brain stimulation they're expecting, but casual readers should also give What the Dog Saw a try.
