Drug combo may reduce cardiovascular disease risk A medical study yesterday showed that the simultaneous use of two drugs can help one out of six people reduce their risk of major adverse cardiovascular events. There are approximately 1.7 million people in Taiwan suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), with 50 percent of the disease's mortality rate due to cardiovascular disease. Around 20 percent of domestic CKD cases were found with abnormal blood rheology. Due to a lack of relevant experiments and subsequent medicine, many cases were left untreated. The Study of Heart and Renal Protection drug (SHARP) yesterday released results of it latest findings, which cited that taking simvastatin and ezetimibe can reduce the number of adverse cardiovascular events of those with CKD by 15.3 percent, with one out of six people in the study seeing results of reduced risk. Simvastatin is a drug used to control elevated cholesterol while ezetimibe helps lower it.
