UK office marks countdown to Olympics
“There are 100 days to go until the start of the London 2012 Games, so all around the world today, we're doing special events like this to mark the countdown,” David Campbell, the director of the Taipei-based office, told CNA in the southern city.
Britain is all set and prepared to welcome the world to what promises to be the greatest show on earth, he added at the activity, which was attended by Sports Minister Tai Hsia-ling.
Speaking at the event, which took place at the National Sports Training Center, Tai encouraged Taiwan's athletes and instructors to hang in there and try their hardest in the upcoming spectacle.
“With more persistence, more efforts and sacrifices, we will definitely do better than four years ago,” Tai said.
According to the British office, 100 embassies and high commissions around the world are holding sporting events Wednesday to mark and celebrate the approaching of the event.
Each office has come up with its own idea, employees from the Taipei office said, adding that photos of the global campaign will be posted on the website of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
