Spain's Rubio makes NBA All-Rookie First TeamAFP NEW YORK -- Minnesota guard Ricky Rubio, a 21-year-old Spanish playmaker, and NBA Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving of Cleveland were among those named by the league on Tuesday to the 2011-2012 All-Rookie Team.
May 24, 2012, 12:03 am TWN Irving was the only unanimous selection in voting by the NBA's 30 coaches, who were not allowed to select a player from their own squads. Irving had 58 points with Rubio second on 49, chosen by 21 coaches. The rest of the NBA All-Rookie First Team included Denver's Kenneth Faried on 46 points, Golden State's Klay Thompson on 43 and New York's Iman Shumpert, San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard and Detroit's Brandon Knight, all with 40 points. Irving led all NBA rookie scorers with 18.5 points a game and also added 5.4 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals a game. Rubio played in 41 games before suffering a torn left knee ligament in a March home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Rubio averaged 10.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and rookie bests of 8.2 assists and 2.2 steals a game for Minnesota. An All-Rookie Second Team was selected consisting of Houston's Chandler Parsons, Sacramento's Isaiah Thomas, New Jersey's MarShon Brooks, Minnesota's Derrick Williams and Cleveland's Tristan Thompson.
